Now that I'm at the point where I'm implementing online scores for my latest game, I also decided to take the time to add a bit more security.
In all my java games up until now, I haven't really had much in the way of security. People have been hacking the scoreboards, and that was annoying for everyone. It bothered me a little, but because all of my games have been free up until now, I didn't really pay much attention to it. With the iPhone though, I hope to make a little money selling my next game. When people have to pay for a game, they expect features to work better.
What I'm doing isn't going to stop any hard code hackers, but it'll be enough to discourage those who aren't truly dedicated to the task of hacking the scores.
