Hello everyone (am I talking to myself again?)! Attack HQ is my second mobile phone Java game. Attack HQ is heavily inspired by Metal Marines, a unique real-time strategy game that was available on Windows 3.1 and SNES back in the day( '93 ). It's one of those fantastic old games that many people still love today, but many more have never even heard of. For those of you that have played Metal Marines, HQ will be very similar. Most aspects from MM are being kept, while some new features are being added. I'll post screenshots here as I make progress. Although since I'm the only one that knows about this board, that may just end up being a waste of time. If anybody actually finds their way here, post some messages, ask some questions, and make suggestions. I made this board as a place for MM fans to voice their opinions on HQ. I plan on trying to get up to 5 players in the game at a time. If I can manage to make enough money selling a single player version of this game, I'll buy a few more blue-tooth enabled phones and add multiplayer. I would do it on the first version, but I don't have the money to buy all the phones I'd need for testing. I would also like to add online multiplayer, but don't have the money to pay for any good hosting. I just created this board, I havn't found anywhere on the net that shows any evidence of any other remakes of metal marines. I hope everyone else wants to play more of this style game as much as I do. Of yeah, and if anyone is interested, my first game "Attack Chopper" is on sale through Mad4Games.com, but that's only in Europe. You can get the demo at.... www.getjar.com/products/5730/AttackChopperMain page(pretty empty right now) is at attackgames.game-host.org/

Well, I know that nobody is reading this, but it helps me sort out my thoughts a little....
I have the AI building Radar along with the Lightning towers and AA now. I am re-working the AI a little so that I will be able to work in the money and fuel pumps.
I had a friend come over a couple days ago to discuss the AI, and we worked out all the major strategies, so now it's just down to implementation and details.
I started up the windows version of Metal Marines, just to see how the AI behaves in the original game... Well it's really stupid. I can't believe how incredibly dumb the AI in MM actually is at building / attacking. If you don't know what I mean, just wipe out an entire enemy island, and watch it build up a new base. It places things completely randomly. You'll see the AI build a missile at the front of the island, or radar dishes out in nowere land. The difficulty of MM was entire determined by the computer's starting structure layout and the player's initial resources.
Attack HQ doesn't have the disk-space to save pre-build islands for every level, so I need to have this AI smart enough to build up it's own defenses. Also, pre-build defenses arn't possible if I plan on having randomly generated maps.
... talking to myself makes me feel better.

Well hello again nobody!
The AI is now able to scout the player's island and send missiles after the targets it identifies. This took quite a bit of background work before it started to show results.
The AI is now nearly complete. Next up is making the AA fire at the incoming missiles...

Well here we go... I see that a few people have made it here from the link I put up on getjar.com. So now instead of nobody reading this, it looks like it may be 3 people including myself! Anyhoo, I have been cleaning up the code, and making it easier to expand for multiplayer. I still don't know if I'm going to be able to put multiplayer into the game, but if I am, these changes will make it easier. I have also been working with a company called greystripe, that is providing the in-game advertisinge for Attack Chopper. These folks have been super friendly, and a pleasure to do business with. We are working through the bugs that have been added since implementing the advertising in Attack Chopper, so that I can release the full game for free. I have one version available on Getjar.com, but it's only for Midp2.0 phones, and still has a few minor bugs. The Midp1.0 and Nokia versions are being worked on, but I don't have an ETA for them yet.

I havn't had the time to work on Attack-HQ for the last week or so, since I have been trying to finalize the Ad-supported version of Attack Chopper. I'm taking a few days off, and then it'll be back to work on Attack HQ.
If anybody else actually posts a message in this board, I'll give you a cookie!
... anybody out there?

I have converted the game to allow any number of enemy players. I'll have to see just how much this slows down the phones when there are more than 2 players. It's not enough of a game yet to actually set up a game with multiple computer/human opponents, but that will come . I played a game made by somebody else that is doing a Metal-Marines remake. That game is for windows though, and is trying to be a perfect copy. I played a multiplayer game of that other remake with my brother and a bunch of computer players, and found the game to be a little too crazy for me. It even slowed my computer down quite a bit, which surprised me, because my game runs on a CELL PHONE with no slow-down at all so far . If I add multiplayer, I think it'll probably just be played with 2 sides. Either 1-on-1 or with multiple people on each team, but only 2 teams. Deathmatch was just stupid where 10 players could just attack anybody they wanted, and the poor guy that got hit by the masses died right away. On the AC front: The in-game advertising is paying off for Attack Chopper. I am not pulling in very much at the moment, but if I can get a few good games out the door, than that will build up the advertising $$$'s considerably. It's rather surprising to me, but people that downloaded the full version of AC 4 weeks ago are still playing it on a regular basis. I didn't think that AC would have that much replay value, but that's probably because I can whip through the game in 1 or 2 lives, which only takes about 30 minutes. It sure would be nice to hear back from some of the people that play AC, and find out if they want more levels...

More levels on AC? about 200 should do it - well at least it might last out the year. any chance of a guided missile power up? Or shields power up to zap the Big red missiles?

This is actually the wrong thread for AC stuff, but oh well...
I am totally open to suggestions for the next Attack Chopper.
I think a shield is a really good idea, and that's going in for sure. I wanted to do that on AC originally, but at some point you have to just release the game. The shield would be the only way to block the uber-missiles that kill in one hit.
The way the game works, homing missiles wouldn't really do much. Since the bullets always go to the target location already. If you mean something that fires automatically without needing to be targetted even, it may just make the game waaaaaay to easy, since the baddies don't move around. You could just sit there and they would all die. Maybe you only get like 5 auto-defense homing missiles per powerup, and they only fire when you are in range of targetting the enemy? That way you have to get close still, and it wouldn't make the game too easy.
What do you think?
