I just worked out a deal with a new advertiser, and I am switching ALL of my downloads on Getjar.com to the new one starting tomorrow. This new system works a little differently:
1) Only 1 ad is shown each time you play, and it is shown AFTER you play. If you exit forcefully, and don't see the ad at the end, you'll see it at the start of the next time you play
2) Ad revenue for me is based on clicks, not views. My current advertiser bases revenue on ad-views, instead of ad-clicks. The upside, is that the ad-clicks pay better, but people are less likely to actually click.
3) The new advertising software adds less size to my Jar files! This saves about 5KB compared to my other advertiser, which is very welcome.
4) Users have the option to pay and remove ads! If you don't want to see ads anymore, you can simply click "Purchase" and disable ads right away. The cost is $5.00, which is why I charge that much through my getjar.com paypal link as well now.
5) Ads are ONLY on Midp2.0 versions. This is not much of a problem, since apparently 80%+ people that play mobile games use Midp2.0 phones, but I have 3 phones, and only 1 of them is Midp2.0. In fact EVERYONE I know only has a Midp1.0 phone. I think Canada must be behind in the mobile technology race
6) Midp1.0 has a "try & buy" version. This is a trial that lets you play 5 times, and then must be purchased. The purchase can be made directly through a link at the start of the game.
So anyhoo, that's the new advertiser. Starting tomorrow, I will have an ad-supported Midp2.0 version of each of my games on Getjar.com, and Midp1.0 try&buy version for each as well. I am planning on doing this for a 1 week trial, to see how it works out. If the revenue is lower than my current advertiser I would have no reason to switch over my main site permanently.
I hope it works out with the new advertiser, since I get $$ if people decide to pay to remove ads. Of course I get significantly more money if people buy through my direct paypal link on my getjar.com download pages.
That's what I've been up to for the last few days. Progress on Attack Chopper 2 is coming along, and I should be able to spend a lot more time on it during the rest of the week.
