I'm going to make a simple game / game compilation to test online play.
I may only have 1 type of game, or I may do a compilation of boardgames / classic paper games.
The first one I'm going to do is "the box game". On the paper version, you and an opponent take turns drawing a single horizantal or vertical line connecting 2 adjacent dots. If you complete a 1x1 box, you fill it in, get 1 point and draw another line. This continues until the entire game board is filled with squares. The winner is the one with the most filled in squares at the end. Not the most exciting game on earth, but I played this in class and on bus trips for many many during school.
If I make a compilation of online games, what else would you guys like in there?
Checkers? Connect 4? (can't call it connect 4 though) SOS (OXO)?
Of course, it'll have to be a "classic" game that doesn't have any kind of copyright associated with it. I don't think I want to do chess, since it's got the odd wacky rule, and likely takes longer than any of the above games. If I do chess, it'll likely be by itself.
For now, I only plan on having a simple "first person available" matchmaking system. I don't have any plans for a "player rating" for matching similar opponents, but maybe I'll do that too if this game turns out to be popular.

Me too. I'll definitely put that in. I think for sure I'm gonna do:
Connect 4, SOS, and the box game.

well u want classic and simple games but i must share my greatest mobile phone game fantasy - cute, simple mmorpg on phone. It can be zelda kind stuff or sims for 2+ players. Obv its not cheap to be online on phone non stop but still thats only fantasy. Im also great fan of old 80's strategy - Warlords 2, its turn game, and u could try with some turns strategies. I know its not simple but im perfectly sure that first guy that will make it will be legend in my opinion massive online games are the future of cell phone games

Many people now have unlimited internet deals for their phones(like me), so I'm not worried about the cost. As far as bluetooth multiplayer, I'm afraid I'm not going to do it anytime soon. I only have 1 phone with bluetooth, so it's hard to test.
I am more driven towards internet play, since more phones have internet access than bluetooth, and it'll mean you always have somebody to play with/against.
Turn based strategy games can be great fun. Unfortunately, for some reason they're not all that popular. There is a vocal minority on messageboards that play those kinds of games, but it's got limited appeal compared to more action-oriented stuff.
Once I've got a tested and reliable online system working, as well as a more stable income, I WILL make more online games of varying types.
One of my favorite games of all time is called "Aerobiz" (and the sequel Supersonic). This is a turn based airline management simulator. This game would be d**n near impossible to get people to try, let alone convince them to put in the time to start enjoying it. However it is my ultimate goal, that I will eventually be making enough money that I can make games like that (with online play of course), and take my time doing it, without caring if it makes a single dollar.
Unfortunately for now, I do have to think about what game will make me the most money in the near future, as quickly as I can. Things are starting to pick up for me though, and maybe by the end of the year I'll be making enough money that I can finally start to pay of my student loans (ugh!), and make more obscure/unique/fun games.

abalone is another great game octagonal board with black and white marbles pushing pieces off the board etc.. that would be a nice game for online play.
as for "I'll be making enough money that I can finally start to pay of my student loans (ugh!)" I feel ye man you have somewhere in the region of 300,000 downloads for attack chopper i think and how much have u got in return... and all the carriers are making a mint of the downloads for gprs usage its criminal almost!

It's strange. I thought I'd be able to make some sales with my free versions being out there and played by so many people. I think it must be 2 different types of customers, the ones that look for free stuff and go to sites like getjar/gamejump/mobilerate etc, and the ones that buy games directly through their phones. Unfortunately the ones that buy game through their phones ONLY see the games that their phone companies want them to see, which means ONLY the big publishers titles.
For AC1, I make on average like $0.015 for each of those listed downloads. That's it, a penny and a half. Attack Breaker pro makes more per download on average, but isn't downloaded as much yet. AC2 is too new to tell.
I'm going to try advertising ABP on getjar.com so I can get up the lists far enough to enjoy copious amounts of downloads. I think it'll be worth the expense of the advertising, but I won't know until I try.

Ye I contacted Vodafone Via about becoming a partner but they had little or no interest since they want mabey 5-15 games a year on contract that support all theior phones and porting is a costly thing to do. and they still make money from sites like getjar anyway so they prefare them to be free games that way they make the money and dont have to share it!!
How much is the advertising on getJar? I have been looking into setting up something similar to getJar but with a payment system to go with it like sharewire. It will take some time and money but you never know in 2-3years it might come tru.

Getjar.com advertising costs: ->WAP click ads are $0.06 US per click, purchased in lots of 1,000 ($60.00) ->Banner ad on just the web site: $1.50 -> $0.70 CPM(impressions not clicks), in lots of 100,000 impressions. The more you buy the cheaper it is per lot ->"recommended" placement is $1500.00 per week, $2500 for 2 weeks or $4000 for a month ->"featured" placement is the same pricing as "recommended" Honestly I had been debating making a site like this as well. I have the knowledge and experience to do it, so it's been tempting me. The only thing that's stopped me, is that there are only 24 hours in a day still, and I want to spend my time making games

No kidding. It costs a lot of money. I'm not really in this to make a fortune though, it's just something I like doing that won't drive me crazy if I do it all day. I did the whole office-cubicle thing, and almost went nuts.
