Ads not downloading any more

I have been playing AC2 for a while now and updated the ads a few times, then all of a sudden it started to fail by getting stuck at 50% into the synchronization.

I put a msg about this on getjar and Adam wrote a reply asking me to download it again, I had version 1.03 that I had downloaded sometime in May. Unfortunately I get the same problem with the new version, synchronization stops at 50% and then nothing happens.

I'm using a Siemens C65, I haven't installed anything else since I installed AC2 so It's strange that it just stopped working.

I don't want to buy this game just yet, starting a new work in 6 weeks where I will get a new phone, prefer to buy it for that one instead of my old C65.

That's strange.

1. Is there any chance you can download another ad-supported game, and see if you have the same trouble?

2. When it fails at 50% of the synch, is there an error message?

To try out any of my other games, go to : attackgames.game-host.org on your mobile. After we get the answers to these 2 questions, we can take it a bit further.

1) Downloaded the Breaker game, it downloaded the ads no problem.

2) No error message, it just stops and nothing happens.

Tried AC2 again after I had run AB, but same problem as before.

One difference between them when downloading Ads are that AB only ask me once for access to the Net, AC2 asks me twice for it when progress is around 45% and then starts over from 0% and when it reaches 50% it just hangs and nothing more happens.

I have tried allowing it internet access for the whole gprs session but only difference is that it won't ask me again just end up with it hung again at 50%.


I actually left it alone for much longer than usual (more than 5 min) and now I did get an error message, I got: "Access denied: Unable to reach Greystripe....."

I tried AB again and it downloaded the Ads again no problem.

I think I know what the problem is!

I think you have the MIDP-1.0 version of AC2, but your phone supports MIDP-2.0. Now of course all phones that run MIDP-2.0 will also run MIDP-1.0 apps, but the advertising code in the MIDP-2.0 versions is much more reliable.

The MIDP-1.0 versions of all the games use http web connections to get the ads, and the MIDP-2.0 versions use sockets. So when it downloads ads, your phone pops up the 'allow?' message for each and every http web connection. In MIDP-2.0 it only needs to make 1 connection through the socket and keep it open for all the ads to download/upload information. So if you are seeing multiple 'allow?' questions, it is most likely because you have the MIDP-1.0 version. Since you only see it once for AB, that tells me your phone is running the MIDP-2.0 version of that game.

Do you download to your PC first, or directly to the phone through WAP? If you use your PC, get this version of AC2:

IF you have trouble downloading from getjar, try out gamejump.com, since they have a much better system of selecting your phone model. However, if their system doesn't recognize your phone, it may be serving you the MIDP-1.0 version. Get this one from their site if getjar gives you trouble....

Downloaded that version directly to my phone.

This time I got several requests for access before I finally go the "Access denied: Unable to reach Greystripe..."

Can it be that it's trying to get something that actually isn't there? And AB is getting other things and that is why it can download the ads?

I don't know what to say. There shouldn't be any difference in the ad system between the different games.

Do you have the ability to load games to your phone from your PC using a data cable?

Hi again,

Just downloaded it to my PC and the transferred it to the phone after I had deleted the original on the phone, but unfortunately the same problem.

I guess I just have to wait until I get my new phone and buy the game for it.

I wish there was more I could do. Where do you live? My advertisers said they will start blocking regions that don't have paid ads in their area soon. Maybe they don't have anybody running an ad campaign in your area of the world, and they've started filtering connections.

That's my last idea.

I live in Sweden.

I have just emailed my provider to verify that they don't have any type blockage in place.

But it's strange that it works with AB, and it did work with AC2 before.
